Committee Update
(SNPDC)
The SNPDC would like
to thank everyone for their interest in donating
fiber for the "Fiber Festival Project." We've had
lots of interest from the membership and encourage
everyone to "keep it coming!"
We would like to clarify for everyone that we need
fleeces that are under 6 1/2 inches. The machinery
that will be used for producing the roving cannot
handle fiber lengths greater than that. As such,
fiber from a second or third clip would be ideal for
this project - still fine and lustrous, but a
shorter length.
Just to update everyone, we have officially been
accepted into two of the three Fiber Festivals that
we have applied for in 2008 - SOAR (Spin-off Autumn
Retreat) that will be held in PA this year, and the
NY Sheep and Wool Festival in Rhinebeck, NY. We are
still awaiting acceptance into our third festival on
the West Coast. These are high profile festivals, so
we should get a lot of good advertising out of these
venues.
Additionally, there will be an article about Suri
fiber in the summer edition of Spin-Off Magazine.
The SNPDC donated a pound of fiber to Kaye Collins
to spin (Kaye did all the spinning for the SN at
last years SN Spin-Off) and a second person has
developed a pattern for the spun yarn and will knit
a shawl with it. The article in Spin-Off will cover
the process of spinning and knitting with Suri. So
remember to pick up a copy of Spin-Off Magazine this
summer!
