2016 Summer Symposium and

All-Suri Fleece Show

August 4-6, 2016

Loveland, Colorado

The Suri Network 2016 Summer Symposium promises to be the event of the year!

Filled with first rate education on fiber, breeding, health, and marketing, there is something for everyone. Three full days of general sessions combined with smaller break-out workshops will give you the chance to focus in on the things that are of most interest to you.

Two general sessions will be held each day. In the mornings and afternoons, you will have your choice of between two and three different workshops. Some workshops are two-parts, so you will want to attend both. Others are one session, but may be repeated at another time. We hope this will give everyone an opportunity to attend each workshop that is appealing to them. We believe there is something for everyone, and that you will find that to be true!

About the Symposium

The 2016 Suri Symposium is planned to be jam-packed with educational sessions.

The Symposium is designed with general sessions in the morning and after lunch, plus two to three workshop choices each morning and afternoon. Some workshops are two parts, with part one in the morning and part two in the afternoon. Others are repeated twice so that more people can take advantage of them. The structure of the Symposium allows for everyone to take advantage of topics they are most interested in.

See the full schedule here.

The educational and networking opportunities are fantastic! Here is what people had to say last year:

“Loved the schedule and educational opportunities. Loved 3 full days. Loved the new location in Loveland. Great facility. Best symposium in 5 years!”

“Topics presented were exactly what I needed to learn about to help my alpacas and my farm.”

“Excellent event. As a relatively new Suri owner/breeder I appreciate the vast amount of info and networking here.”

“So glad we finally came. Have heard from others for a good time that was worth the $ and now I know it to be true.”

Our line-up for 2016 includes:

Dr. Andy Merriwether, with a reprise of his wildly popular workshop on breeding and color genetics, plus a general session on genetics and deformities. He will provide information from his latest research on the evolution and domestication of alpacas.

Cheryl Gehly, on using herd classification to improve your breeding program, plus a live demonstration of how alpacas are classified.

Karl Heinrich will share fiber basics - how to figure out what kind of yarn to order from your fiber, how to get your fiber ready to send to the mill.

Dave Scott, Livestock Specialist at the National Center for Appropriate Technology Transfer for Rural Areas will provide workshop on pasture management.

Margit Korsak will present a session on visual marketing and the "power of the picture".

Elizabeth Taylor, Spotted Circus Alpacas, will present a workshop on tanning hides and a workshop on marketing your products online.

Dr. Norm Evans will present a two-part neonatal seminar plus a general session to explain histograms, skin biopsies and what the scientific data means for you in your daily work.

Jude Anderson and Dr. Norm Evans will present a session on Embryo Transfer - Next Steps.

Amanda VandenBosch will provide a general session on the new Suri Breed standard.
